ACVPM Continuing Education Webinar: One Health (OH) and Antimicrobial Stewardship (AS) in Veterinary Medicine

Thursday, August 27, 2026 (4:00 PM - 5:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

The ACVPM Continuing Education Committee is pleased to invite the members of the National Association of Federal Veterinarians (NAFV) to an upcoming continuing education webinar.

Dr. Erica Tramuta-Drobins will present “One Health (OH) and Antimicrobial Stewardship (AS) in Veterinary Medicine
”.   Dr. Tramuta-Drobins will provide a general introduction to One Health (the interconnectedness of animals, humans, and the environment), antimicrobial stewardship in veterinary medicine, and why we, as a profession, should care about proper antimicrobial use.

We will discuss antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and various classifications of antimicrobials to help assist veterinarians in drug selection including the WHO's List of Medically Important Antimicrobials (of human importance), the AWaRE antimicrobial classification system, The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) list of Antimicrobial Agents of Veterinary Importance, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) guidelines for antimicrobial selection based on MICs/culture results.

Additional topics will include One Health 10-20-30 AMR targets, the Six Moments of Veterinary Antimicrobial Prescribing components, and assistance for vets in selecting appropriate antimicrobials. Knowing what to prescribe for which organisms at a given time for a given patient can be challenging; however, there are guidelines we can use, and by pausing, thinking, and choosing wisely, veterinarians can help minimize the impact of AMR on global society. Attendees should come away with a good grasp of what AMR is, how antimicrobial selection can minimize the development of AMR, and key resources to help guide decision-making.

This webinar has been granted up to one hour of CE credit by RACE. Participants must be active members of the ACVPM or its partner organizations and must participate for at least 50 minutes of the webinar to receive a one hour CE certificate.
